The 4-day course is aimed at high-achieving, intellectually curious, and enthusiastic 15 - 17 year-olds who are interested in studying at Oxford University. More specifically, they are looking for students who would like to explore subjects in greater depth, and who are interested to work with Oxford academics, as if they were Oxford University students. During the programme, students will study 3 academic subjects and participate in St Anne's 'Oxford Explained' programme, which includes information about how the University works and insights into the admissions process at Oxford. DBS has secured 20 places for our students. Interested students, please fill out both the CFC Google Form AND the St Anne’s Summer School Application form. The school will select 20 students for the guaranteed spots based on academic results and conduct as well as teachers’ recommendation. Please provide your reason as to why we should select you for one of the guaranteed spots. For students who are not selected for the guaranteed spots, do not worry. CU Medicine is inviting DBS students to join the GPS Leadership Workshop by Professor Dennis Lo on 24 Feb 2024. Professor Lo is the Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the President of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences. His research interests focus on the biology and diagnostic applications of cell-free nucleic acids in plasma. In particular, he discovered the presence of cell-free fetal DNA in maternal plasma in 1997 and has since then been pioneering non-invasive prenatal diagnosis using this technology. This technology has been adopted globally and has created a paradigm in prenatal medicine. He has also made many innovations using circulating nucleic acids for cancer detection, including the screening of early stage nasopharyngeal cancer. In recognition of his research, Professor Lo has been elected as Fellow of the Royal Society, Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences, Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and Founding Member of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences. Professor Lo has won numerous awards, including the 2014 King Faisal International Prize in Medicine, the 2016 Future Science Prize in Life Science, the 2019 Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award, the 2021 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences, the 2021 Royal Medal, the 2021 ESHG Mendel Award, the 2022 ISPD Pioneer Award, the 2022 Lasker~DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award and the 2023 inaugural Tengchong Science Prize.
